INSPIRED COOKING (NON-MET COURSES)

We all like to eat out from time to time (or more often than that!).  It is nice to have someone else cook for us and to sample a broad range of dishes. It is good for our overall palette to eat a range of foods from a variety of countries.

I had the opportunity to travel through and sample great food throughout Asia.

And, I found that within each country there are fun twists on classic recipes. I visited a pizza place in the heart of China where the proprietor had learned to make pizza in Italy.  He was inspired to bring this delight to his own country.  The point is that to enhance our overall culinary delight, we need to continually broaden our horizons and try new recipes.

I teach within the independent Christian schools of BC which are part of the SCSBC group of schools. As noted elsewhere in this portfolio, I am part of a committee seeking to implement policies and resources regarding digital citizenship and literacy.  I am also on a committee responsible for organizing an annual two-day professional development conference. Thus, in some ways the MET program has provided me with a much needed “outside” perspective on educational issues.  In other ways, I have been able to draw on my own faith-based background to provide insights to the MET community during my MET journey.  In either case, having taken these other courses has provided me with particular frameworks needed for teaching in my current context.

I took this course just prior to the MET program and is linked to the community I am regularly part of.  It is important to share recipes with our communities closest to us. In fact, it is within my faith communities that I will be sharing most of what I have learned.  As such, it is important to me to have this community provide some framework for some of my recipes.  It is also an integral part of the cultural viewpoint that I bring to the rest of my dishes.  Moreover, as I noted, I took this course before MET and this whetted my appetite for what was possible in learning and growing.  I also set out my own personal vision for growth and learning which has shaped my  journey for the last few years.
